MSc-GSCM Programme: Overseas Field Study 2026
MSc-GSCM Programme organized an oversea study tour to Singapore for the elective module – SCM6009 Supply Chain Management Field Study from 6 to 10 January 2026. The study tour was led by Dr George HO and Dr YM WONG, the SCM6009 module coordinator and lecturer, respectively.

Singapore is one of the key logistics and supply chain hubs in Asia, playing a significant role in the global economy. During the study tour, students had the opportunity to visit world-leading logistics companies and supply chain-related institutions, which broadened their international perspective. It also allowed them to experience and understand various supply chain facilities firsthand, gaining an in-depth understanding of supply chain management and operations from multiple perspectives.
Here are the highlights of the SCM-related firm and institute visits:
1. Cogent No.1 Logistics Hub
Cogent is a leading one-stop logistics service provider in Singapore and Malaysia, widely recognized by international enterprises. During the visit, students were guided by representatives from Cogent, and they had the opportunity to explore the patented Sky Depot. This innovative warehouse design can accommodate 15 levels of empty ISO 40’ containers on the building roof to be retrieved by overhead travelling cranes or reach stackers. It has been successfully implemented in various locations across Singapore and Malaysia. Students also visited facilities, such as warehouses, gaining deeper insights into warehouse management and logistics operations.


2. KLN Logistics Centre (Tampines) Pte. Ltd.
KLN is an Asia-based international third-party logistics service provider with a diverse range of businesses and a comprehensive network across Asia. Its business scope includes integrated logistics, international freight forwarding (sea, land, air, rail, and multimodal transport), e-commerce, and industrial project logistics. During this visit, students were guided by representatives from KLN to their logistics center in Tampines, where they gained firsthand insights into warehouse management for fashion brands, sorting technology operations, and cold storage facilities. This experience further enhanced their understanding of warehouse management and logistics operations.




3. DHL Express
DHL serves as a hub of international trade, connects businesses from different regions and significantly facilitates the flow of goods and services on a large scale.
• DHL Express South Asia Hub
Led by Mr TAN Siong-Buck (COG Manager of General Office) and his team, the students visited the large automated warehouse within DHL’s South Asia Hub. This warehouse employs various advanced technologies to optimize air freight operations. Mr TAN Siong-Buck also provided a detailed explanation of how advanced technologies enhance transportation security, efficiency, and accuracy while demonstrating a commitment to sustainable development





• DHL Express Expo Service Centre
The students visited the DHL Express Expo Service Centre located in the Greenwich Advanced Regional Centre. Led by Ms. Siti (Deputy Service Centre Manager) and her team, the students learned about DHL’s global network and Singapore’s distribution system. Following the briefing, the students gained an in-depth understanding of the logistics operation process at the service center through on-site observation. The operations team also demonstrated various procedures to ensure parcels are delivered quickly and smoothly to every customer.





4. YCH Group Pte Ltd.
YCH is a globally leading provider of integrated logistics and supply chain solutions. The students visited YCH’s Smart E-commerce Hub, where, under the guidance of YCH representatives, they observed the application of autonomous mobile robots in e-commerce order processing. They also gained insights into how automation enhances cost efficiency, storage density, and productivity.

In the morning of 9 January 2026 (Day 4 of the tour), we were honored to have Dr KOH Chaik Ming,Senior Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore, to give us a professional seminar on “Future Supply Chains – Singapore: Policies, Infrastructure, and Technological Innovation.” Dr KOH shared numerous examples related to supply chains, including Singapore’s policies, technology, infrastructure, and technological innovations. He also conducted an in-depth discussion on Singapore’s fresh food supply chain and port relocation plans. All the students actively participated in the Q&A session, further consolidating the knowledge they gained from their classroom learning in Hong Kong and the on-site study tour in Singapore.




The study tour concluded with individual presentations by the students, where they summarized their observations and insights gained during the on-site visits. The students performed exceptionally well, and it is believed that this study tour provided them with a highly valuable and unforgettable experience.
In addition to the aforementioned learning activities, the students also had the opportunity to visit various renowned tourist attractions, immerse themselves in Singapore’s traditions and culture, and broaden their horizons.
