Congratulations to Dr George Ho and his team - Silver Award winner at the 49th Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions

The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) has once again made its mark on the global stage, achieving impressive results at the 49th Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions held from April 17 to 21.

This was the second time HSUHK participated in this prestigious exhibition. Dr. HO To Sum, an Associate Professor in the Department of Supply Chain and Information Management, School of Decision Sciences, won the Silver Award with his collaborative research project with Chef Digital Limited, which is supported by Research Matching Grant Scheme of the University Grants Committee.

The winning project, titled “OPlusO Hub: Event Management in the Metaverse,” combines offline and online event management with AI-driven visitor behavior analysis. The project proposes three phases for an event, namely Pre-Event, During-Event, and After-Event. The first phase involves encouraging the audience to register an avatar to represent them in the Metaverse using facial recognition and the GenAi Kiosk concept. The second phase concerns participating in events both virtually and physically. Audiences can enter the Metaverse Event Platform using avatars to travel the exhibition hall, listen to talks, and visit booths, neglecting physical constraints. On the other hand, Indoor positioning Services (IPS) are applied. This facilitates the direction of audience members to the appropriate booths based on their interests, where they will receive pertinent information, providing a personalized experience. In the third phase, data processing and visualization are employed to analyze the behaviors of the audience using technologies like IPS and Big data. This allows the organizers to compare and conduct benchmarking against other events, seeking areas for improvement.

This award-winning project exemplifies HSUHK’s commitment to knowledge exchange, translating research and innovation outcomes into impactful solutions for society. The university and its School will continue to foster a culture of innovation, encouraging teachers and students to develop novel research technologies and solutions to address various global challenges.

The International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva is highly regarded as a leading international platform for showcasing inventions. The 49th Geneva International Exhibition of Invention showcased over 1000 inventions, with nearly 700 delegates from 40 Hong Kong organizations participating.
