Tencent Product Manager
2021 BMSIM Graduate

After graduating from HSUHK, I successfully joined Tencent. After completing the graduate training program, I became a Product Manager. I am responsible for the planning and design of internet products. I owe all of this to the cultivation of HSUHK. The MSIM program has developed my ability to think independently and apply innovative thinking. The teaching content is closely aligned with the workplace environment, which has strengthened my performance at work and enhanced my competitiveness. I hope to continue applying the knowledge I gained at Hang Seng University and actively applying it in the workplace.

Before enrolling in the MSIM program, I was still unsure about which industry I wanted to pursue in the future. However, through the patient guidance of my professors over the past four years, the summer internship in Year 3, the research project in Year 4, and joining the Big Data Intelligence Center after graduation, I developed an interest in information technology, coding, and machine learning. The open and learning-oriented environment at Hang Seng University has helped me transform my interests into a career direction. In 2023, I joined the government department as a Senior Systems Analyst/Programmer II (APII). My main responsibilities include optimizing internal information systems and leveraging the benefits of information technology to improve the department's efficiency. This job reminds me of the knowledge I acquired in the MSIM classroom. I look forward to continuously improving myself and contributing to the development of information technology in Hong Kong.

After graduation, I started working as a robotics developer and later joined a game company in Shenzhen as a Big Data Algorithm Engineer. My daily work involves developing targeted algorithms for promotional activities aimed at specific customer groups. Looking back at my university days, I completed my MSIM FYP (Final Year Project) under the careful guidance of my professor. From my first PCA algorithm to later algorithms like Random Forest, SVM, GMM, etc., I learned and experimented with each algorithm, putting them into practice. Because my FYP focused on solving a real business problem, it was challenging and inspired me to learn new technologies and knowledge by solving difficult tasks. It also sparked my interest in algorithms and AI.

Currently, I am busy working on the fusion of NeRF (Neural Radiance Fields) and Diffusion Modeling. Through Diffusion Model, I generate a high-quality clear image from a low-resolution image and then connect it to NeRF to construct a 3D model. I hope to develop a true Text-to-Objects (3D) capability for the company. I am still working hard on it!

I graduated during the pandemic, and finding a job was really difficult. Luckily, with the help of the professors in MSIM, I eventually found a job. This company participated in Cyberport's FinTech Anti-epidemic Scheme for Talent Development (FAST) and had been involved in various FinTech projects. I was able to apply the skills I learned previously, such as different analysis software and process design tools. MSIM really laid a solid foundation for me. One of the first projects I had to work on was developing a mobile application (Apps) for a foreign insurance company. Traditional insurance companies used to require face-to-face interactions with brokers and customers to purchase insurance, so we designed an application that allowed customers to buy insurance instantly using their smartphones. As a bridge between the customers and the IT development team, I not only understood the customer's needs but also had to understand the feasibility of different development platforms and new packages to ensure the smooth expansion of the entire project.

Later, I returned to my alma mater, the Hong Kong Hang Seng University's Big Data Intelligence Center, where I participated in the development of two language learning mobile applications, "SpokenBot" and "ReadOutLoud". These apps allowed students to practice English and Mandarin anytime and anywhere on their phones. It involved the application of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, voice synthesis tuning, and real-time analysis of recordings, which made me realize even more how important technology is in our lives.

In this era of information explosion and big data, looking back at the knowledge I gained from studying MSIM, I can truly apply it in my work. Both Hang Seng University and MSIM have definitely helped me to go further and step into a broader and more business-oriented market that focuses on data analysis and information utilization.
